Revitalizing Breadfruit

Revitalizing Breadfruit

"The Ho'oulu ka 'Ulu Project.“

Ho'oulu ka 'Ulu is a project to revitalize 'ulu (breadfruit) as an attractive, delicious, nutritious, abundant, affordable, and culturally appropriate food which addresses Hawai'i's food security issues. It is well known that Hawai'i imports about 90% of its food, making it one of the most food insecure states in the nation. Additionally, since the economic downturn of 2008, many families lack access to affordable and nutritious food. We believe that breadfruit is a key to solving Hawaii's food security problems.

HOFA Starts Organic Marketing Service

The Hawai'i Organic Farmers Association is pleased to invite all organic and sustainable farmers and producers to join an exciting marketing opportunity!  All businesses in the State of Hawaii that produce, handle, distribute, sell, package, prepare, or provide a service to sustainable organic agriculture, are invited to list services on Hawaii's premier organic online directory at http://HawaiiOrganic.org. The directory is the one-stop site for customers, visitors, chefs and retailers searching for certified organic crops and processed products in Hawaii.

The Hawaii Organic Marketplace is also a source for suppliers of organic crop amendments, retail stores, and restaurants that serve organic menus.

See simulated webpage here

If the operation is already organically certified, the farm, business or service may already be listed on the Hawaii Organic Marketplace on our website. By supporting HOFA with a one-year $50 business membership, we will enhance your listing to include all of the crops or services you provide. To join, visit the website and download the form, send it along with payment in the form of credit card, check or money order, to continue supporting HOFA and enhance your Marketplace listing for a year. List your operation and products, include an email address and website if applicable, on the reverse side, and inform us of any changes in your contact information.

The HawaiiOrganic.org site also provides information about events, organic agriculture, certification requirements, seed sources and a community bulletin board. The Hawaii Organic Marketplace directory provides a central location for buyers to find organic farmers and products throughout the state, streamlining the purchasing process and strengthening our local organic community. You are also invited to join our Facebook and Twitter feeds, and share your events with all of our friends around the world.

Membership support makes a difference in determining the scope of services we are able to provide Hawai'i's farmers and consumers. You are helping to ensure that HOFA is able to support healthy food, farming, land and soil, for long-term sust-'aina-bility. Mahalo for supporting organic farmers and processors through your membership in the Hawaii Organic Farmers Association!
