My Eat Local Hawai'i Plate
Remember the Food Pyramid? Well...that was recently flattened into a plate! The new "food pyramid" is now called "Choose My Plate" which is designed to help people more closely approximate—on a plate—the daily, healthy amounts of food to eat in each food group.
Here in Hawai‘i we are going one step further: we call it the "My Eat Local Hawai‘i Plate"--which is designed to help people choose healthy, locally grown foods.
The concept was the brainwave of Jeff Melrose of the UH Hilo Food Self-Sufficiency Baseline Study and was executed by the North Kohala Eat Locally Grown initiative with assistance from nutritionist Vivienne Aronowitz.
The North Kohala Eat Locally Grown initiative is sponsored by Kaiser Permanente and the County of Hawai‘i-Department of Research and Development and the County Council. The North Kohala Eat Locally Grown Campaign is a project of the North Kohala Community Resource Center.
